Other things to note
In the Pyrenees Orientales, Saint-Hippolyte is north of Perpignan (20 min from downtown), and along the Etang de Salses-Leucate.

The municipality is very close to the different infrastructure of the department:

15 min from the airport,
less than 10 minutes from the highway (Perpignan Nord – A9),
5 min from a large shopping area (cinema, restaurants, supermarkets etc)
Geographically, Saint-Hippolyte is 10 minutes from the Mediterranean coastline and its famous resorts (Le Barcarès, Canet-en-Roussillon, etc.).

On the edge of the pond, the Hippolytan territory has enjoyed, over the centuries, a rich land, as in the entire Salanque.

Over time, men have mastered these swampy spaces, which today contributes to the diversity of its fauna and flora.

On the one hand, the typical history of this village undeniably linked to its location, land of passage, has forged its architecture, layout. The medieval castle with its cellera that form the historic center of the village, have been well preserved. The cellera is this set dating from the Middle Ages, in one piece around the castle, made of barns and dwellings, which are only found today very rarely in Roussillon, lack of conservation.

Facing the castle, the church in very good condition too, exhibits in a side chapel its ancient treasures. Roman ruins testify to the ancient history of our municipality (aire terminal).

This exceptional situation has been put in place over the successive changes to the village.

On the other side of the village, towards the pond, extends a vast protected natural territory. A program to protect European natural spaces, Natura 2000, has been set up over a vast area of the communal territory.

In addition, a canal dug in the 17th century by Paul Riquet, makes the junction between the village and the pond.

Come and discover the fishermen's cabins at the Font del Port (at the end of the canal).

You will also see Catalan boats.

This space where endangered species and floristic diversity rub shoulders, is an important place of passage for migratory birds.
